Making the Body
So now the head is complete and it's time to work on the body. I make a form out of foil and masking tape and start to cover it with clay.
I decided to work my way from top to bottom! So I start with the chest first. Right now it looks more like a woman than a babies chest! I better work on that hehehe.....
Starting to work on the little baby belly. The chest still needs some work, but it is better to have a little more clay to work with than less clay.
The chest is now flatter, and there is a nice big round baby belly!
Now it's time for the gender! It's a girl! I've added a belly button, which is a little higher than normal. As this is a newborn baby, I wanted to give an impression of an umbilical cord. I've also added the "pimples" as my eldest used to say when she was young!
The body has been baked, I'm happy with the final result. All that is left is to sand it so its smooth.
Here is a picture of the back. Unfortunately, I forgot to take step by step photos of this part but, here is the final baked look. I have got the shoulder blades, the spine and a cute little bottom! The bottom doesn't look as round in the photo as it is in person, it looks a little flat here. It's just the angle of the photo. Next is time for the limbs!
